Atal Bihari Vajpayee Provoking Speech Before Babri Masjid Demolition

19.08.2018

But Atal Bihari Vajpayee was an honorable man.

His government presided over one of the worst agrarian crisis in India. Thousands of farmers committed suicide across the country. The government did precise little to solve the crisis. Food rotted in the godowns but was not used for food for work program, since the government adhered to the most stringent neoliberal policy framework. His government had a ministry for disinvestment (that Minister by the way is earning applauses from liberal circles now a days), which sold off Public Sector Units for a song. PSUs in Bengal were particularly hit under his regime.

His regime tried to communalise education and all institutions of importance. As a student I remember the struggles which the JNU students under the leadership of the then JNUSU had to wage to save the university from Karmakand and Jyotishastra. Kanti Biswas, the then education minister of West Bengal, relentlessly struggled to save our education from the communalists.

But Atal Bihari Vajpayee was an honorable man.

Thousands of Muslims were butchered in Gujarat, when he was the PM. Yes, he reminded the then CM (now PM) about Raj Dharma, but did not implement his own Raj Dharma of dismissing the Gujarat government for allowing the carnage of innocent Muslims. He delivered a provocative speech, a day before the demolition of Babri Masjid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_Nvqqx5_Po . He remained a lifelong Sangh karyakarta and upheld the RSS vision of  rabidly intolerant Hindu India.

But Atal Bihari Vajpayee was an honorable man.

Sometimes, the people of India see through the 'honor' of such honorable men. As a result, his government was defeated in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections. The best PM of India, as the media claims now, did not have a second chance, in spite of the media blitzkrieg of India Shining Campaign. For this, they might as well censure the people in their grief for Vajpayee.

But Atal Bihari Vajpayee was an honorable man.
